Michael Carrick - Director
Michael was admitted to practice in 1992 after working as a journalist at The Age newspaper. His areas of practice include intellectual property, employment law, commercial contracts and commercial litigation and defamation and media law.
Michael has significant experience in the following areas
- commercial and business transactions
- intellectual property and research and development
- employment and
- media law
Michael has lectured at post-graduate level in industrial relations and provides seminar briefings to in-house counsel and managers in industrial relations and contracting issues associated with research and development.
He provides intellectual property law advice (copyright, designs, trademarks and patents) as well as advising on and preparing computer software, hardware, multimedia and internet contracts. Michael has extensive experience in advising publicly funded researchers, universities, corporate researchers and technology creators and licensors.
He is a senior fellow of the University of Melbourne Law School and lectures in defamation law.
In recent years he has:
- advised publishers on defamation, copyright, plagiarism and trademarks issues;
- assisted in the establishment of several Co-operative Research Centres;
- assisted in the establishment by Australian software and IT houses of US subsidiaries
- assisted in the establishment of manufacturing joint ventures in China
- advised on outsourcing and in sourcing issues in the telecommunications industry
- prepared intellectual property policies and manuals
- prepared pro forma documentation for precedents publications
Michael holds a Masters of Law from the University of Melbourne in commercial law. He also has the following qualifications: LLB (Melb), B.Commerce (Melb) and BA (Journalism) (RMIT).
